So I have a 3 different wet pets who would be better housed in tanks all by themselves. At the moment I have 2 of them in a 125 with a divider and the other in a 72. Anyway, a little further down the road I was thinking about building a custom stand where I can put 2 to 3, 75 gallon tanks side-by-side.

I'm curious to see if anyone has done this (or something similar) already. If so, please post pics.

I've considred doing the same thing instead of getting one 8 foot long tank. I will likely do it in a couple years.

I'm interested to see some pics if anyone else has done it as well.

Somebody did 2 55s with a 29 in the middle. It turned out pretty cool too.

Definitely! Or any creative setups would be cool to see... I was also thinking about putting the 2 - 75's side-by-side and then putting 1 - 75 in the front. I would build a single stand for that setup as well? Or... like an "L" shaped layout with 3 - 4, 4 foot tanks?

Just build a really long stand out of 2x4s. Really depends on if you want to plumb them all together or not. I think it would be easier to plumb them together. But also would be good to be able to close them off if needed to medicate one tank and not the other.

If I end up going this route; plumbing them together is definitely the way I'll go. I would build it where I can either fit a large sump underneath the tank or in another room so it can be easily accessed.

I just visited a guys house that had a large fish room. No sumps. Just a big air pump running a big sponge filter for bio filtration in each tank. I'd think about that idea for a multiple tank setup. It's elegant, and simple to maintain. We often forget the allmighty sponge filter hahaha

Then just run maybe an AC110 full of floss to polish the water, and maybe a small Hydor Koralia for some added water circulation.

Maybe not the prettiest set up for a show tank, though.....But it got me thinking about a rack of 75 gallons

Anybody?

Question... suppose I end up going this route and I work on a centralized filtration system. How large of a sump would one recommend for 3 - 75 gallon tanks? The overflows would end up leading to the same sump. 55 gallon? It just so happen that the room directly behind my fish room is my laundry area so I was thinking about having the water and filtration system set up there. I'm pretty sure I can't fit a 55L in that room but maybe 2 - 20's? or 2 - 29's stacked on an iron stand.

I used a 55 for my 120 gallon. It was plenty big for that. 2 75's is only 150 gallons. I'd say you'll be fine with a 55 gallon sump. Just make sure you design it right so it wont overflow in case of a power outage. you can fit 2 filter socks and enough bio media in a 55 for sure. Just needs to be designed right to prevent a flood.

Here's my old 55 gallon sump. I really liked the design:
