First picture is from 2 weeks ago(the day i got the little guy).

i reckon its a stressed out mono lol.. whats in there with him?
try taking some photos without flash..

oh yeh.. lol didnt notice that the first time :)
im also keen to know what other fish is in there, cause he still looks pretty stressed after being in there for 2 weeks...
perhaps getting another cichla would help..
 
well there are 5 Silver Dollars, and a 6 inch silver arrowana. he might be showing a bit of stress due to the fact that he was just coming off of a 3 day hunger strike. i decided to break him to take market shrimp.

i am assuming that you are calling the stress due to the light black coloration. this fish fades that all the time. it is really odd.
 
yeh the dark colouration shows stress, the middle pic looks like his normal colour.. i have simillar tankmates with my bass :)
