So the other day my wife and I went to the LFS for fun and found a red texas that she fell in love with. For her, it was the personality and so it makes me wonder if instead of moving all my stock up to the 125 that I'm planning on if maybe 2 wet pets in the 125 would be a good idea (and rehoming my current fish).

To that point, she loves all the Synps she's seen posted her so... how are they as "wet pets"? I know they get larger (maybe too large for a 125?) but how are they personality wise? I've only seen them mostly in very large tanks with a community.

For myself, I'd love one of the Amphilophus species, particularly something like a Lyonsi. How would it get along with something like a Synp in a 125? Feel like the potential for a fight may be a little high...

Anyways, don't yell at me, just doing some brain storming. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Jealous, I want a lyonsi haha; I'd be out of my depth in answering the question, would be awesome though if you could pull it off with sight breaks

After keeping a large Synspilum a couple years back, I wouldn't consider them to be "wet pets". This doesn't mean they don't have personality, it just means they usually don't display the aggressive, tank-banging attitude you see with fish in the Amphilophus genus. In addition, they get absolutely enormous, and do so in a hurry. I kept mine in a 90G. At just over 12", he made the tank look like a shoe box. A full grown Syn can easily surpass 14", leaving little room for tank mates in a 125G. If it was me, I'd do a pair of quality Lyonsi from Rapps, add in some fast dithers (Giant Danios, Silver Dollars, Austrailian Rainbows, etc) and call it a day.
