Alright guys so I bought this 20 gal a few weeks ago for my living room and its all set up and ready to go, and now its time for me to get some fish for it. Its going to be in the living room so Im looking to hopefully get a few fish that would be active and nice for people to watch. Any suggestions?

There aren't many cichlids you can keep in a tank that size, especially if it's decorated. A mated pair of dwarf cichlids would work if you had plenty of hiding spaces in case the pair had a disagreement. You could round this out with some small tetras something. I've spawned rams and kribs (though they're West African) in 20s.
Planted, a school of green neons, some different colored shrimps. A few nerite snails, and a pair of ottos for algae control.
Not monster but should be decent looking if you have lights for plants
