20 Gallon Confusion

I have a 20 gallon tank that was given to me. I have it cycled and ready for fish. It has a sand/gravel substrate and lots of rocks/caves. Initially I wanted to try some Tang Cichlids because of the size. I am finding it very difficult to come up with a plan for this tank. It seems the size is a real problem. I plan on getting a larger tank but I don't want to write off a free 20 gallon either.

What do you suggest? Should I give up the quest for cichlids? I need some help!

Why not an African Oddball Tank. That's what I pretty much have since I have an extra 20g. Sound like you have more rock work than me, but why not a Leopard Leaf Fish or Butterfly Fish, and a group of Congo Tetras?

You could do shelldwellers if you want cichlids and still have the butterfly.
