Are any of the African cichlids suitable for a 20 gallon long?My girlfriend loves cichlids and im coming around to liking them as well.I tested my tap water this morning and the GH is around 25,KH close to 0 and the PH around 6.5 if that helps.
You could keep a pair of one of the following:
Altolamprologus compressiceps
Altolamprologus calvus
Julidochromis
probably most brichardi complex
any type of shell dweller....
Make sure and use either a crushed coral type substrate or something to buffer the water higher than 6.5. Most all types of recommended so far take at least 7.8 ph or higher preferred.
What kind of Africans does she like? In a 20L forget about Frontosa. Its too small for peacocks or haps as well. A group of Tanganyika shellies and julies would work (they stay small). You could have a few dwarf mbunas, but don't mix them with the shellies or julies.
