my brother is getting a 20 gallon long what should he stock it with? I am not sure if he wants cichlids or not. Just give me a lot of options so i can let him choose.
thanks everyone

Apistogrammas are worth mentioning as are tetras, otos, danios, rasboras and corydoras.

maybe a pair of convicts but u prolly wont have room for the babies

I suggest either, german blue rams, kribensis, or some type of new world dwarf cichlid. They are pretty awesome.

Along with those you can add in some tetras or something else small and schooling.

That's what I would do...GBRs. They are great little dwarfs with amazing color...and fairly easy to breed as well.

You could also do some of the shell dwellers...those are pretty cool.

I've always liked tiger barbs, maybe a shoal of 6 or 8? I know, cheap and common. Maybe 3 malawi mbunas or so? Or a pair of jewels?

Malawis are too big for a 20g. Tanganyikan shell dwellers, on the other hand, are okay.

could a convict work with some rams?
No. Convicts are far too belligerent for the likes of the rams who are more peaceful in comparison to the cons. You cannot keep the convicts in community tanks generally speaking except with those who can naturally defend themselves quite well.
