20 gallon stocking

as of right now, this is my stock:

6 cory hastatus
8 rummy nose tetra
5 black neons
1 CAE
5 Ottos

They are all doing great in their planted 20 gal... HOWEVER, tetras have gotten mad boring, no matter how pleasing they look to the eye.

What should I do?
I am leaning towards getting 5 pygmy corys OR three female apistos with one male (can these guys go solo w/o stressing?)

And, of course to make this addition successful, i'd have to take out (give to a friend) some of my current list. Here is where I will take your advice (with a grain of salt, perhaps).

Then how about some live bearers like Platys or Swordtails? Guppies and Mollies?

I had three mollies, and ended up giving them away. they were nice and all, (and good at eating hair algae), but i wanted to give my friend some fish bcause he just started out with a tank that i gave him.
