i took down my 20gal tank and i was gonna sell it but i thought i'd just turn it into a sump for my 235 mainly to put my heaters in and add some more filtration to the tank...just wondered what i would need to make it into a sump like pump bio balls stuff like that and how to make it thanks any help is appreciated

Just be sure it can hold the water level you want to run in it, plus the full amount held in your overflow boxes. When power to the pump is shut off, the overflows drain to the sump.

Using check valves can minimize drain-back from the pump line.

Yes, but I was referring to the drain lines from the overflow to the sump, not the pump return lines. A check valve will do no good on your drain line.

Two 1/4" anti-siphon holes 180 degrees part just below the nominal water level on on both.

I use a 20 high on my 75,with a power out it fills to about 3" from the top.
I dont think thats gonna cut it on a 235.
Here is a shot of my setup

Oh and i dont think check valves on the return are a great idea, they will fail when you need them
