This is my very first attempt at a planted tank. I just got the plants and sand tonight, so it's still pretty cloudy. Sorryyyyyy. I hope to add a few more plants in the future and more fish. Right now my betta Simon is in love with it. Lol. He's swimming all over the place and resting on the anubias leaves.

I don't know what other fish I can add yet, I'm going to do some research. I know I'll need a bottom feeder. So that will probably be next.

Sorry the photos aren't too great. I took them with my cell phone.

Be nice, I have feelings :D

Plants are usually the focus of a plant tank
you can get w/e livestock you would like
opinions can be found below

Otocinclus

bettas love a nice planted tank ... you might want to add two or three otocinclus catfish, to help control algae ...

Definitely do not get corydoras. My betta ripped 2 of my skunk cory's to shreds after he ripped their top fins off. I was able to save the 3rd but it was pretty bad. So far the only thing that I can keep alive with my betta are snails. He is very curious about everything but cannot come to a decision on what to do with the snails. I'd say safe inhabitants are snails or a pleco like a clown pleco(will not outgrow the tank). I have no experience with oto's. If you'd like to get some fish make sure you go with a school or schools of fish around the same size of the betta. Every betta is different than the other, more colorful ones said to be more aggressive, so you never know how one will act towards your fish/inverts. Good luck with the tank!

remove the plant from the black "cup" it's in and peel away the junk around it. carefully bury the plant into your gravel so the roots are all below surface. I'm not 100% but it looks like a crypt. If so, these guys really appreciate root tab ferts. Also looks like some cambomba in there, I've never had luck with it. if you don't either try hornwort, or java moss. Both of those are pretty indestructable plants.

Really depends on your bettas aggression level what to add. But most fast swimmers should be safe from it's advances unless it's really nasty. In my 20H I have a flash pleco. He's a hoot. Not the best algae eater though. some of the larger snail species should do fine, just make sure you're getting the algae eating species not the plant eating ones. Kuhlie loaches can be alot of fun. ime the blacks are abit heartier then the normal tiger striped ones. You might also get away with a few amano shrimp, they are bigger then alot of the others, and do an awesome job controling algae. a pair of rams may also be a nice choice.

try to avoid plant eaters like mollys/platies/ alot of barb species.
