Hey all, I've currently got a 5 inch Flowerhorn. He's in a 30 gallon with plans to move him into a 55 or 70 in the coming months. I've been toying with the idea of getting or building a 200 gallon tank. If I do this, would there be any other fish that could go in with my flowerhorn in a 200?

Yeah you could deff make something work I've had a flowerhorn in with Jack dempseys an Oscar and a Texas cichlid before and they all did fine together just make sure there's plenty of hiding spots

I personally wouldn't do a community because you never know. But that being said I have seen plenty of tanks with bichirs and flowerhorns, know a guy who has discus with his fh. If you raised him alone he might be territorial and aggressive but you can always give it a try!

Oh I seen a tank with an fh and discus before. But yeah if I do decide to do a community I'd be cautious with my fh

I would not personally recommend discus as a tankmate. Probably the last thing I would recommend after neon tetras haha. Maybe some guy has done it, but chances of you being able to recreate his luck are slim. I would try for similarly tough CA cichlids, like glenn suggests. It will be much more difficult to do if your FH is large already, tends to work better when the fish grow together. There are some other things you can do to make it work better, like adding at least 2-3 fish at a time, putting smaller fish in tank first and let them get established, and changing the décor around when adding new fish.
CA communities are difficult to get to work, takes a bunch of shuffling and trial and error. But in a 200 you should be able to pull it off. Just keep another tank on hand established and ready for refugees
