Hi Guys, I am planing to setup two (2) 7'2'2 aquarium (200 Gallons each) , but due to limited space, I want to use a metal dual stand (4 post, 3" each using tubular and angle bar). would this be safe?
If your floor will support the weight, your stand will support the weight and the stand will keep the tanks from twisting or drooping in the center you should be OK. I would want that much weight securely anchored to a well built wall.
It all comes down to how well you engineer the stand and foundation for the stand. If it is designed or built badly it is an accident waiting to happen.
Making each frame for the stand out of 3”x2” tubular with 2x2” legs at 1/4” wall thickness would easily handle the weight of both tanks. Add a cross brace every 2’.
Thanks guys for your reply. I ask around some of our local store or company who make aquarium and none of them takes a project of doing 2 pcs of 8x2x2 in a single dual metal stand for both tanks, I guess that are not confident and don't want to risk their names
Anyway, I was thinking would it be better just to setup a single 8x2.5x2 tank with sump at the bottom (which local store can make) versus 2 full tanks 6x2x2 (is the biggest they can make for stacking on 1 stand ) which one do you think better option, 1 giant tank or 2 smaller ones ? What I intend to keep are aro, Oscar, peacock bass, pacu, severum, argentea, gourami, blood Parrots, clown loaches, silver dollars, basically those bigger fishes.. I'm not a fan of guppy and alike.
I’ve built stands to hold 2 large tanks no problem as long as your floor can hold the weight. Obviously you don’t want any verticals blocking the view of the bottom tank so 2x3 or 2x4x1/8” steel is used for the upper base to prevent bowing No feet on the stand, a complete base making full contact with the floor
