I need to replace a quiet one 9000 pump on my 250g tank / 70G sump setup. The pump is submersed in the sump located in the tank stand. The tank is in my the TV room in my basement and the pump is far too loud to enjoy hanging out there. So it needs to go...

I can get a hold of the following pumps that meet the flow rates I need and won't be to difficult to plumb into the existing setup.

1) Aquarium HY-drive 2500
2) Mag drive 2400
3) Reeflo Snapper 18

#1 issue for me is is the noise. Does anyone have experience with all 3 that can comment on the noise levels? Anyone have positive/negative experience with models above? Am I missing any obvious choices that may be quieter than all 3? Thanks for any help....

Of the pumps that you listed, I've only had a Snapper. I bought it used (it came with a 240G used setup). I think it was over 5 years old, so it's not really fair to comment on how loud it was since I'm not sure whether or not the previous owner ran it dry or abused it in any other way (it had a pretty good hum to it). I currently have a Super Dart Gold and I would say that it is pretty quiet. I hear the water flowing into my sump over the sound of the Super Dart Gold Motor.

Just an idea...have you thought about running two smaller pumps? Smaller pumps are typically quieter and would also give you the piece of mind that if one of them dies, you will still have another one running. I've heard Eheim's are really quiet, so perhaps running 2 1262's might get you enough GPH and would be really quiet.

I have also heard good things about Laguna Max-Flo pumps. They are really efficient pumps and from what I have read they are reliable pumps (3 year warranty) but I can't personally speak to how much noise they produce.

Good luck finding your pump.

^^^^I run 2 eheim 1262's on a 300 tank + 90 sump in my living room....SUPER quiet. I also have reeflo dart 3600's...pretty quiet but not eheim quiet. I know you didn't ask about any of these, but hey, it's some usable info.
