Hello everyone, i'm new here I hope to get some good advice here. Seen a lot of links here from other sites so i thought i'd ask some questions. I'm in the early stages of my build. I have my stand all ready to go, my filters have arrived and my wood all cut to size ready to be assembled and glass ready to be installed.

My question is, has Ames Block & Wall a safe liquid rubber to use for waterproofing? I've used it before to seal my basement and it worked extremely well. much better than Drylok. Has anyone ever tried this product? I can't find any other liquid rubber products besides Block & Wall anywhere around me. I've asked about Blue Max everywhere and no one seems to know what it is. I would possibly order Blue Max online but I can't seem to find 1 gallon pails of the regular grade. Only trowel grade or 5 gallons of regular grade which is too much. I noticed on Ame's site, Blue Max is not labeled mold and mildew resistant while Block & Wall is. Will this be an issue for my fish and turtles? I was reading the can at Ace Hardware and it says it is suitable for potable water containment and is regularly used to store rainwater in drought stricken areas around the world. If that means anything. I can't seem to find any information on the subject anywhere online so I'm guessing Block & Wall has never been tried. I like the fact that it is tintable as well but who knows if that would harm the fish as well. I'm not a huge fan of the black liquid rubber i've seen used. I think i'd rather go for a grey or blue but if it comes down to it, i'm not that picky. My turtles need a new home.

Please no fiberglass or epoxy recommendations. I have to assemble this in a poorly ventilated basement. Opening windows isn't an option this time of year either. Thanks

Tank is 30W x 60L x 30H but will only be filled to around 26-27". Replies are much appreciated!

i know you dont wanna hear fiberglass or epoxy....but i strongly oppose to using either of the ames products. Ames blue max is in fact fish safe and can be found on a couple cement pond builds on the internet but it never dries and people have had issues getting any kind of silicone to adhere to it. If your worried about smell or toxins from epoxies i would recomend using a pond liner with 3m 5200 sealant or Gold Label pond and aquarium sealer for the window. I purchaced 15 gallons of ames blue max and ended up using it for my basement walls and on a 2x4 top for my 650 build. Inside the top the paint is still tacky after 2 years. The basement walls (brick) are also tacky after a year and i assure you they will never dry. I would NEVER use this product on a tank and 5 gallons would not be enough for your build let alone a gallon. It takes alot of coats to build up and will not work like you think it will. Great paint for brick walls but thats it.

i finished my 500 gal plywood tank about 5 months ago. i used ames blue max to seal the inside. it has been working great with no issues.
