I have a 20g tank that has 2 angels, 2 cupidos, a rubber lip pleco and 4 neons. Filtration is a fluval 205 and I do 50% weekly wc. I have never kept rift lake cichlids but mY wife likes the way they look so I'm kicking around the idea of transferring the fish from my 20g(except the pleco) into my 125g which will work and look great(unless you're a neon) and keeping africans in the 20g. I'm wondering if it would even be worth learning a new type of fish for a tank that small and what would be a good stock. I'm hoping for to get the names of a few species and the quantities that would work and if we like the idea enough begin my research for taking care of them.

to be honest, to get the most out of your african cichlids, you may want to put them in the 125 instead of the other community fish, since many africans grow around 5 inches (mbuna), and many more grow bigger. if you have to put them in the 20, that seriously restricts what you can keep in there to adulthood. for the smaller tank, you might want to look into the shelldweller cichlids, Labidochromis, and demasoni. good luck and keep us updated!

agree w/FMDan...though agroup of demasonis with an actinic light.....would be really sharp !!!

Get shell dwellers. They are entertaining most a dwarfs and will live their whole life in that tank.

Multies
Brevis and there are more species

Get sand and about 2-3 shells for how many fish you end up getting
Sit back and enjoy

Thanks for the advice, I will look into these shell dwellers. The 125 is already fully stocked with eartheaters, a nic, and and ebjd which is why I would transfer the angels and cupidos to thant tank.

wont the ebjd beat up the angels?

All accounts are that the ebjd are much more peaceful than regular jds
