Hey guys I've never had a quarantine tank in all of my years of keeping fish. Sad I know.

My wife and I are trading 3 of our 4 tanks and equipment in for a 125g which will be a mostly discus tank. Being such expensive fish, we plan to start a qt tank for newcomers.

The tank we are keeping is my beloved rcs tank. It has gravel, a few plants, small driftwood, and all rcs. They breed like crazy and some are fed to the fish.

Wanting to keep this tank, is it possible that this can become the qt tank? I'm sure it needs to be bare bottom with nothing in it, but I was curious. Thanks

QT tanks are best if completely bare so "bugs" have no where to cling to and hide. It also affords you the ability to view the newcomers at all angles to check for any damage, red spots, and anything that isn't supposed to be on a healthy fish.

I have a 20 long qt tank that has sand and a piece of driftwood in it. I like to make the fish comfortable during their qt since they will be there for at least a month. No real plants though in case I need to treat with meds.
