i want to use a 20 g long for a 55g tank
i was wondering if 1/2 pvc is ok for the owerflows plus what is the inner diameters for s 20 long if i was to have the glass at lowes or home depot

I would go with either 3/4" or 1" in case you need more gph and turnover rate.
Are the side panes on the 20G 12"? if so the glass from HP & Lowes will work.
I used a 55G for my sump and used their glass for my sumps too!

the size of glass that they carry that are usually in stock are 12x10 and 12x36.
you might have to cut some of the glass to fit your sump.
here's a drawing of my 29G sumpcapture1.jpg
your gph depends on your stock too!

12" is usually the outer dimensions. an 11 3/4" piece of glass should be a good fit, the silicon will make up the difference.
if you really want to be sure of getting what you need, measure it.

It was trial'n'error for me, the glass from HP or Lowe's (I don't remember) fit my 10G, 29G, and 55G so I used them for my sumps. They are on the thin side though.
