So i'm very new to the reptile hobby, and currently i have a 20 gallon tank (24" x 12 x 16) laying around not being used. So i decided i want to make it a lizard tank. I'm not quiet sure about what to put in it. The most common ones are geckos especially leopard gecko.
Today when i went over to my lfs, i saw a beardie (so far fav) and researched a little about them and saw that they required a minimum of 40g at adult preferably 55.
Are there any types of lizards that are acceptable for life in a 20g tank with the similar look of a beardie? Fat kinda body and sort of spikey at the edges?

I read that for a 20g life, mostly any lizard that doesn't grow beyond 12" is acceptable. Is that right?

Main diet im looking for is pellets, crickets (since i feed crickets to my aros, it'll be easy :D), mealworms (same thing as cricks).

You could maybe keep one of the smaller swift species. Other than that a leopard gecko is probably your best bet. 20G high isn't all that much room for a lizard unfortunately.

okay so i looked more into a emerald swift and i'm pretty interested in those.
I also have a high 35g hexagon tank not being used which has a height of 24", 12" on each side of the tank, and 20" across. Will i be able to fit anything in there?
I'm still favoring beardie's, and if not, ill probably upgrade im not sure.

I would say a good choice is a viper gecko, emerald swiffs are cool but they are unfornatly allmost all wild cauth wich means they can be very hard to adapt and can be full of parasites. Leo gecko is also a good bet.

tokay gecko or fattail leopard geckos

thats what i would go for

okay so i just got a 55g so im going for the beardie :D
any recommended heatlight? im going for carpet as substrate, i have a fluorescent fixture but im not sure what type of bulb to use for the secondary heat. Recommended vitamin brand? im going to be feeding baby crickets, small mealworms with fruits/veggies as there diet. Since the one i saw is about 3 inches, im gonna block out half of the tank with a cardboard to separate. Also im gonna buy a heated matt if thats necessary.

Again im new to the reptile hobby so anything helpful will be great!

Good choice on beardies. You won't be disapointed. You will need a good UVB bulb(I reccomend mercury vapor or if you go with a flourescent get the repti sun 10-0). They need a basking spot around 105-110 if im not mistaken and low 80's on the cool side. A regular house bulb can be used for heat. If you get a baby it won't eat much veggie but will grow into it when it gets older. Babies need alot of protien and adults need alot of veggies. I would think any kind of vitamin and D3 powder would work. I don't know brands. Someone more experienced with beardies will fill in the gaps.

Good luck with your lizard! Herps are the greatest

curly tailed lizards, collared lizards, or a uromastyx

alligator lizard, looks like cross between the two but stays relatively small
