20g wet/dry filter

I'm planning on building my 125g and i'm really considering the wet/dry filter. Will a 20 gallon long wet/dry filter work well in terms of water circulation for the tank?

You should look at closer to 30-40g

I agree, you're going to want to go a bit larger than a 20G.
