So this is supposedly the largest Privately owned reef tank in North America... seems like the guy really has a knack for building stuff, since he built and designed this whole system himself... also makes me wonder if he is an MFKer by chance...

20K gallons with few fishes, those fishes are living in heaven! But some of them look kinda skinny though like the blue tang.

Yeah, Bill Wann is a very active forum memeber. He had a thread on ReefCentral that got shut down, I think people were asking too much about price or something like that. He's listed as "pigpen" on R2R, and as far as I know he's not on MFK. He is active on Facebook as well.

It's probably the largest private reef tank in the United States, and I have heard rumors he's going for a 60,000 gallon octagon tank at some point - just to "see how it behaves". He's a crazy man, in a good way though. Drives Ferraris too.

I think the engineering and plumbing looks waaaaay better than the aquascaping. The control room was simply amazing. He should get someone to consult with him on rock and cave placement. Jmho.

I believe this was taken before the pipe burst... one of his 4" pipes was twisted a bit too tight and warped and eventually as time when on it cracked. Enough water moving through it opened the hole larger and larger, and almost all of the tank was quickly drained. The corals all died but all the fish were fine, fortunately.

I believe that since the burst, he re-did the aquascape - not sure on that one though. If he ever has a crash, this would be a killer shark tank. Blacktips are out of the question, but any benthic shark outside of nurses would do well, as would whitetip reef sharks. A pack of those guys, some hefty predatory fish like jacks or barracudas, and a big *** grouper would make for one nice tank.

I'm now curious what this guy does for a living, coz whatever it is, it seems im in the wrong proffesion...

He designs some kind of scientific equipment, or at least he did - not sure if he's full time with his aquarium business now or not. I forget what his aquarium business is called, I'll get back to you on that one - but they build massive concrete reef tanks for very rich people, and they build equipment for very large reef tanks - pretty cool stuff, but his skimmers are very expensive.

Of course, with a bit of time and ingenuity you could build a large protein skimmer yourself for around $1,500 - one with the same specifications as Mr. Wann's would run you at least $10,000.
