Just picked up a 210 that doesn't have an overflow. I think I'm going to have the tank drilled to install an internal overflow. I'm pretty newb with all of this sump/overflow stuff so I just had some basic questions:

How many overflows do I need? One central one? One on each corner?

How big do the holes need to be with each option?

What size sump and return pump?

And finally, is it worth drilling? Or should I just do a hob overflow?

Thanks in advance everyone!

I would do hob overflow ESP. if you are new at it....no chance of ruining the tank....you really might want to consider a sump +a big canister ..

X2 I had a similar problem on my old 240. Didnt want to risk drilling especially since i have absolutely no experience doing it. I ended up getting a CPR overflow box (CS150 1600gph) and matching it with a mag18 on a 55 gallon sump. Supplemented this with 2 fx5s as well. You could probably just do 1 sump and 1 fx5.

Hi,
I had a 110 48x18 and sent it out to get drilled. I looked up a really reputable glass shop in your area (yellowpages.com) and have them do it. I put 2 holes in mine and PVC pipped it to my my 30 gallon sump underneath. I also had a an Fluval 403 running filled with Chemi-Pure. Once set up, its a pretty versatile setup. It lets you reall customize your filtration needs at a very high level. BTW the holes you drill should be the size stated on the bulkhead kit you purchase. I bought the 1" set:http://www.thatpetplace.com/bulkhead-fitting-kit-slip-1in
It comes with everything you need. I put my 2 holes in the back panel about 4 inches in and 4 inches down from the top. The kits come with a nice plactic screen insert to relly give it a nicely finished look. Just make sure that your sump hold all the water that would drain out in case of a power loss. In my 110 30 gallons was perfect. Heres a pic of the kit so you can see what I mean. I bought 2 at around eight bucks each..... Good luck!!!
