Hello fellow mfkers, I have a 210 I keep in my garage. Its currently running now but I was wondering if there is an efficient way to keep this monster properly heated during the coldest winter months? I have 2 heaters on it ATM but I dont think thats enough for winter here on the east coast?

I also have a 210 in my garage. I am only running one 250w heater in my sump for now. I am thinking 2 300w would be fine. Maybe a 3rd inside the tank? I am from Oregon so we get cold weather too. My tank has only been set up for about a month. So I gone haven't gone thru winter yet.

Lots of insulation, but attention to mold proofing would also be needed.
Might even make sense to build an enclosure for the entire tank.
Guess it would really depend on how cold your garage gets.

Insulate your garage door. A buddy and I used pink styrofoam from home depot, only cost a few dollars to do, and kept his garage (in Hanover, PA) about 25 degrees warmer all winter. His garage door opener didn't have any trouble lifting the extra weight, which was our only real worry.

I would definatly insolate the tank...something like 1" styrofoam or dense fiberglass 1" or more. The tank should be insulated top and bottom, sides and back at least. Think about designing a front panel that maybe could be hinged and latched up at night or when your not looking at the fish. Circulation is going to be key if you use smaller heaters...I would suggest at least 2 250w minimum...probly be better off with three, depending on how cold it gets in the garage.
Here in SoCal it can get 40F at night and 45F in my garage where I have several tanks to grow out different fish. The garage gets HOT in the summer so you might also think about that as well...make the insolation removeable. Just my .02:D

BTW...my garage AND garage door are both insulated.
