Hey all! First time poster here with a question and looking for some suggestion on my newest tank!

I think its a 210
Dimensions are :
96.5 long
30.5 tall
18.4 wide

So my question has to do with the width of the tank and if it's enough room for an Oscar to make its U turn?
I'm really hoping to get 2 Oscars (vail tails) for this tank but would like to make sure that they have the adequate space before I even attempt to bring this tank to life.

Also new to acrylic and was wondering what kind of algae eater would be best? I hear plecos like to scratch up the tank.

Best wishes and thank you all in advance!

To answer your first question, unless you have exceptionally large oscars, 18 inches will be enough for them to turn around as oscars rarely pass 14 inches. 18 inches might be a bit tight, but not bad.

For your second question regarding algae eaters, I have never heard of plecos scratching up tanks, but I never kept acrylic tanks. I'm not sure what would be a good match for your tank given you want oscars. A chinese algae eater could work, as could a siamese algae eater. I have not kept either of them and am going strictly off what I could find on google, so others can probably provide better insight than me.

Noted! Some else had also said about the same. Giving me more hope! Really missing my albino tiger & tiger Oscar after 6-8 years. They both were around 10 inches

I had stalked another forum & had seen a few people mention that the larger Pecos (not even 60% sure on ID's. Haven't kept too many species) and the commons had caused scratches and scuffling on their tanks.

Chinese algae eaters might be fun! Zooming around might give the bottom level more life. I'll have to look into the Siamese.

Thank you for you the info & thee advice! :)

I feel like Siamese Algae Eaters are just future Oscar snacks.

I know Chinese Algae Eaters get larger, but I think I recall hearing that they can harass other fish and eat slime coat.

That's why I was unsure about them. Some oscars are a bit more tame and could coexist with siamese algae eaters, but I imagine they could get eaten if the oscar was hungry. I also hear chinese algae eaters SUCK and love to pick scales and suck the slime coats off of fish, but I have not kept either of them so I can only go off what I've heard. Perhaps and oscar would be aggressive enough to stop chinese algae eaters?

With oscars, if it fits in their mouths, then don't attempt to put the fish together, unless you don't care about the other fish. When chinese algae eaters suck or pick scales off of fish, it's their way of being territorial and getting the fish out of its area. Someone just had a pictus catfish swallowed by their oscar, who wasn't even 8" yet.

I stand corrected, definitely a no go with the Siamese algae eaters.
