I'm about to plant my 210... I was wondering what the best substrate would be... Also it has a sump and overflows about 800gph... Is this going to off gas all my co2? I was planning on dirting it because I have had a lot of success with this on my 40gal? Just wondering if there is a better substrate that's not super expensive? What's y'all's opinion? Thanks alot

I'm not sure about substrate but the best advice I could give is go with what you know if dirting worked before then go head. The gph will probably be too high for the co2 to have any effect but I'm not 100% on that. You could buy plants in bulk on aquabid.com or petsolutions. When I tried a planted tank I got mine from both sites.

I would try get a pump that has a lower gph say around half or less. That would probably work best. In my lfs they got planted tank running on sponge filters and no co2 but they use floral stubstrate.

a lot of stores i've seen with large planted setups tend to have the Co2 diffuser set at the bottom of the tank directly below where the water goes into the tank to help push the Co2 bubbles around the whole tank...

So i guess to answer your question, will the 800GpH be too much? Hard to say, since it maybe just about right to help getting the Co2 to circulate around your whole tank effectively...

I have a ball valve on my pump that I can turn the flow down with... I thought about injecting the co2 into the return line right off of the pump so that it is immediately pumped into the aquarium with minimum time to off gas... So dirting it's what y'all would go with?

I personally always go with soil in planted tanks, both for esthetic and to gurantee the nutirents...

As for placing the co2 directly in the output, unless your output is right near the bottom of the tank i wouldnt do it... Since gas travels up, so any carpet plans maynot benefit from the Co2 as much, plus its going to escape even faster being closer to the top
