I have a 210 and am trying to plant it. I've got most of it done, but we have a rock tower in one corner. The top is a square foot, I'm trying to figure out what low growth plants I could put up there. There's no substrate right now, and I'm not sure how much i could get to stay on. Any ideas? There's good lighting, water temp is 80. Theres about 6 inches between the rock and top.

I've had java moss before, but don't like it, every tank i put it in gets a thick slime. and it takes over.

Considering this is a rock bed you will need plants that grow attatched to things as apposed to rooting plants that grow in the substrate. As you said a commenly used plant is Java Moss. Some other plants that are considering "low" to "moderate" light plants that attatch to things would be Java Fern, Anubias, Bolbitis fern etc. A personal favorite of mine would be the bolbitis fern.

do you know where you can get bolbitis fern? Im not seeing it on the websites i usually order plants from.

Howdy,

I recommend Anubia nana. Grows great on any surface, however, it grows slowly. Attach it with some fishing line.

Good luck,

it would look really nice if you got the roots to hang down and over a cave, that would look amazing but i dont know much about plants so good luck

i have some of the petite anubius it stays short but looks great in a big bunch. plus it will attach itself to the rock in time

Check plantgeek.net . There's an article in the DIY section that outlines exactly what you want to do.

Great plant site BTW. That's where I learned everything I know about plants.

Post a pic when you're done, I'd love to see it!
