the largest fish I'VE kept is a 12'' oscar in a 75, i'm not THAT familiar with large FW fish. i mean a know a little about a lot of stuff, but now too much still.

i was wondering what i should keep in a 210 to get a nicve mix of color, activity, and oddball-ness.

trying to persuade my dad into going 50/50 more like 70/30 my end is bigger, on the 210. but he doesn't want to pay for it much less have it in his house if it's going to just be a few sluggish fish hovering in the same place all day.

i have a JD and an O that i'd prefer to keep in the tank as well as a severum and a pair of cons. preferably all of these fish should go in the tank. if i get something and it "unexpectedly" eats one of the fish i don't care too much about (any really specially the cons, cept for the O and JD) so be it. nod nod wink wink.;)

to people with tanks with oscars and JDs and such that are like 200 or so gallons.... are they still rather sedate? i know that a 75 is kinda minimal for an oscar but would he be THAT much more active in a 210?

again my dad thinks he'll just stay in one spot like he does in the 75 (which it really doesn't, he just thinks it does)

if any one could offer some suggestion of what to keep, and what would be compatable, that'd be great
i'd prefer like a whiole stocking list but if you can offer just a few fish that are generally ok with others and can live in a 210, that's cools too.

i was thining maybe something along the lines of a RTGG, maybe some red hooks or bala sharks and maybe one or two other biggish fish. open to any ideas and my plan is NOT set in stone.

I just started a 210 as well, and looking to stock it with the following:
Few peacock bass
1-2 arowanas
A Couple Dats
and if I can get my hands on one, and am confident enough to take care of one, a Ray...

i would think the onmly things you can keep in there would be the dtas,a nd a few of the pbass. it doesn't sound like 210 are enough for the truely monsterfish, just babies of them or slightly less-monster, lol

The Balas and Red Hooks sound good, maybe 5 of each? Then you can do some looking around and see which big guys catch your eye.:)

black aros would outgrow the tank wouldn't they?
and people don't seem to have much luck with jars..... are leis any different?

What are the dimensions of your 210g? A black aro would eventually need a larger tank, but it would be good in a 210g for 3 or 4 years. I have JDs in a 6'x2'x2' tank and they are not very active, only during feeding time.

Balas or tinfoils would provide alot of action for your tank and would do fine with large cichlids.

it's a 6x2 and 30'' tall. yeah i figured it was too small...

so what about
the O
the JD
2 snegal polys
maybe 2-3 other polys if i can find them
the severum
the 2 cons
either 4-5 silver dollars or like 15 giant danios (not too worried about being eaten, 1.50 if they are)
a RTGG
and like 10 clown loaches

that sound cool? any other suggestions/tweeks/lists?

If RTGG stands for red tail giant gourami?..I'd say skip it in favor of one or two smaller fish. Otherwise, it sounds great.:) Maybe another sev or two.

instead of the RTGG, get a few geophagus they are lot of species are VERY colorful and they are always active eating through sand. If yu decide geophagus though make sure you have 1/4"-3/4" of sand in the tank as they look for food in the sand and spit out what isn't edible very cool and fun to watch.
