am considering drilling an overflow into my 7 ft glass tank, however there are no stickers or firemarks indicating that it would be tempered. i recently resealed the tank and noticed a small chip on the inside of the front pane. because it is chipped, is it safe to assume that it is not tempered considering it isnt in a million pieces? the glass is about 1/2" thick.

Just like betting you will win in BlackJack with 18.
Just got have the stones to accept the fact that you might lose.
My 125 only has the bottom tempered, but my stones ain't big enough to drill the back yet.

i read someowhere on this site that you can take the lenses out of a cheap pair of polorized sunglasses and put one on the inside and one on the outside and look through them and the tank at the same time and if its tempered you can see the pattern in the glass. no pattern, not tempered

I think all you have to do is look through at the glass with a pair of polarized sunglasses on. If it's tempered you'll see a bunch of dark circles in the glass. That's what I've always heard anyway, though I've never tried it myself.
