Hi guys!

I would like your opinion on this build. Pros are saying that only the height of the tank determine the thicknes of the acrylic needed and bracing. Mine will be fully euro brace with a extra cross brace too.

Im looking to build a 90 x 24 x 24 in 1/2 acrylic.

What do you guys think and any of you has done something like that ?

Thx!

Heres the chart use by some compagnies :

Aquarium Height Sheet Thickness

1 to 12 inches 1/4 inch

12 - 18 inches 3/8 inch

18 - 24 inches 1/2 inch

24 - 30 inches 3/4 inch

I built mine out of 1/2" and its 96x24x24 and it bows very badly. so bad in fact it distorts the view of the fish. I had each top corner braced with a 12" wide piece of lexan with 2 other cross braces in the middle. I cut them off and am cutting the tank down to 18" tall and doing a full top piece with routered openings. if I could do it again I'd just buy one premade. at $500 a sheet x3 id be up and running now and have saved a ton of time and headache. good luck!

I don’t see a point of building any tank that’s 24” wide. You won’t save money chances are you might mess up. A brand new 220g should be less than a couple hundred

I tried the glass 220 g way, all i can get here locally is a seapora, for 1650$, but its tempered glass. So cant drill it, so no. Plus, i cant go wider than 2 feet because of the place where the tank is going.

Should i built it with glass instead. Was looking calculators and seem that 1/2 thick glass would be good for my dimensions. What do you think? Safer? Cheaper?

Decided to build the tank 92x24x24 in 3/4 inch acrylic. Bit pricy but i think i will be alot better in the long run. Ill even do a euro brace 3 or 4 inch with a cross brace. Hope this will reduced the bowing to a minimum.
