I already have a good idea of what I want to stock it with. Mainly going to be Severums, acara, chocolate, and a school of clown loaches. Mainly what I am looking for is a good sized tetra that isn't going to be too nippy, and doesnt grow really large. I was thinking about Silver Dollars but realistically they would get the same size of my Severums. Any suggestions? Tank isn't set up yet, waiting to move into my new house before I set it up. Already have 2 Rotkeils and 2 greens. Thanks in advance for your response!

Some varieties of SD stay quite a bit smaller than others... I think some get to 6-7" and some nearly a foot. Not 100% sure if im right though.

This wouldnt be area specific, but Roseline Barbs would work well. They are very very colorful, and super active which means they can get away from cichlids in a big tank like that.

Lemon Tetras are ised commonly with less agressive cichlids and they look nice. A big school would be cool with the reds and greens of the severums.

Pretty much covered everything I was gonna say. I have lemon tetras and Denison barbs (rose line sharks) in my 125 with geos and severums. The barbs are great but the lemon tetras have been a little underwhelming. It may just be the way my tank is set up, but they stay grouped in one corner of the tank and don't move much.

What about the black or red phathom tetras? Or if you like barbs, maybe tiger barbs or cherry barbs. If you want something bigger, try giant danios but they are super active and fast so your bottom fish might not get enough food.

Mine looked ok but they all got eaten within 3 days. A $30 meal for my Texas...

They seemed at but dull at first but they did perk up, and they moved around pretty good.

Buenos Aires Tetras are decent sized, seem to max around the 2.5-3" mark. I have a group of 10 of these in my 210. They like to hang out with my Giant Danios. Also, it is quite entertaining to watch one of the BA tetras grab a big cichlid pellet and run from the other 9 for a few minutes.

I will say, I know you aren't wanting SD due to size, but man I loved mine. I had a group of 5 in a 125 with an Oscar, GT, JD and they were awesome. Never had any fin nippers, but they kept the middle of the tank on lock when it came to food/debris. Those guys would eat ANYTHING and would eat ALL of it. Probably why after 2 months they had gone from juvies to coffee mugs.

I really like the SDs I just don't want fish bigger than my hand for dithers, also limits the size school I can have. I'm leaning towards the Roselines if I can find a group cheap enough. My LFS sells them but they want like $20 each for 2" fish and I'm not about all that. I've had buenos aires tetras before and they seemed to nip a lot. I like the tiger barb idea as well and lemon tetras but my GF hates lemon tetras. She's a big fan on Serpae tetras
