I was searching and pretty much know what I plan to do but I wanted some advice from some of the MFK legends.

I just got a 220 glass tank and after filling it up I notice it leaks along a bottom seam back corner, it's a few inches long seam leak. No cracks, stand is cool, tank looks great with outside overflow box and nice big sump.

Should I sell as is and save sump and have someone use for reptiles or can I keep tank in my house and just cut away the silicone bead on the corner and just reseal it in that one place where it leaks? Do I need to reseal the whole bottom tank is my question? Also will the tank leak again because of this.

thanks in advance!

Can you see where the silicone is seperating between the pains of glass? Most people on here will tell you to reseal the hole tank and not just the inside seal. If you are able to do that, that's the way I would go about it. If you want to gamble just do the hole inside of the tank without breaking the tank right apart

You need to reseal the entire tank. Silicone won't adhere properly to old silicone. Strip away all of the silicone and redo it for peace of mind. As far as it leaking again, eventually yes. All tanks will fail at some point. When is hard to say, my oldest tank is from 2005, never been resealed and it's fine (knock on wood). My other tank is from 2007 and has been resealed already.

If you only reseal where the leak is, it's a guarantee that it will leak in the near future.

I'm no legend but this is what I've done with success. Razor off all of the old silicone. Careful not to chip the glass. Use alcohol or acetone to get it completely clean. Painters tape around all of the seams. Use GE1 or RTV to make a bead. Use finger or tool to form and fit bead. Remove tape while silicone is fresh. Let cure 24-48 hours depending on temp and humidity. 48+ to be safe.

Afternoon project. You got this!

Ja, it's a very simple job....a little work, but an Inspection Sticker-scraper will make it MUCH easier removing the old beads. About 12oz. of silicone for every 16-20ft should be about right
