I am guessing that the stand will be made out of 2x4's. There is no need on the top and bottom for all the small pieces, the pieces running right to left. Other than that it would be almost the same stand that I build for my 240, 8x2x2. I have a thread about it with a couple of pictures, not real explanitory though.

Nice design..but as bois pointed out..you don't need those small studs running horizontal between the vert. studs for the top and bottom piece. Its just more work for yourself. Skin the top and bottom with either 1/2" or 3/4" plywood..if you plan to stain the top..I'd use 3/4" birchwood, and regular plywood for the bottom.

Also if you are planning to use bulkheads below the tank going into your cabinet, you might want to double check your spacing of your vert. studs for the top to ensure you have enough space and clearance for the bulkheads.

Good luck. :grinno:

Thanks.Yes i will be using 2x4's.Wasn't sure on the small pieces thats why i went over board.
This is just a start.Yeah i dont know what im doing for filters yet.Picking the tank up on sat.
Just try to get a rough good start. Can't wait to get this thing set up.

Another thing to point out. You really dont even need to put those diagonal supports on the sides either, especially if you cover the sides with 3/4" plywood, because that would hold it from rocking back and forth very well. I covered the sides with plywood and attached them with screws, that way i could remove them and make it easier remove my wet.dry if I ever had to.

Also if you look up my thread on my stand and take a look at the picture looking up from inside you will see the horizontal studs on the top are notched and screwed into the vertical studs on the back and front of the stand. that helps with the front and back rocking as well. I notched the bottom horizontal studs the same way. Another thing I did was every joint that you see it glued, just didnt want to take any chances.

Just looked at your stand looks good.My main concern is the front am i going to be ok with just that one support? It will be built like a small wall on the inside.Or do i need to start redesigning?

If it were me, I think i would have at least 4 supports in there! Dont forget you are going to have just under 3000 lbs total sitting there.

Actually, you could probably get away with 3 supports, if you double up the top 2x4 that runs the full length.

I am in agreement with all the advise given so far. If you want to retain the original design, add a second 2x4 behind the center vertical support. Place it perpendicular to the first. Also for the front horizontal 2x4, you really want to beef that up. Add a second 2x4 behind it or upgrade it to a 2x6. Also, make it a point to skin the back with plywood. You can cut all the holes in it that you want, but that back sheet is what gives the stand its stability.
