I'm unsure exactly what species it is
It is just a bad angle I think, he eats like a pig, I fed my fish trout chow and he just mows pellets, it's amazing I've never had a payara eat prepared food, let alone varaciously inhale cheap pellets like this one

Hey,

Nice set up and I really like the turtle. I am also in MI, Shelby Twp and would love to get a turtle like that. Do you know of a store in the area that has one??

Also, how does the turtle get along with the rest of the fish? Does it create alot of mess??

Thanks,

Dan

I got mine from some shop on Ford and Middlebelt, I think it is called Rick's Tropical Pets. I hate the folks at Oceans and Seas, but I think they have them in from time to time. I also think that Greenwoods gets them in some times as well. There is a reptile store on Van Dyke and twentysomething mile that usually has them as well. I guess just call around and youll come accross one.

It killed a 4 inch emperor cichlid when I got it, and sometimes it takes the arms off of my lungfish, but for the most part it is fine.

It is not messy at all.

good luck

Is that a soft shell? Do you have a basking area for him? If so, how about some pics?

Yes, it is a soft shell. No, I don't have a basking area. It usually stays burried under the sand. If it needs air it just eats bubbles from the airstone, floats with it's head out of water, or rests on the floating driftwood pictured in the middle of the tank.
