Ok so i am deployed currently, but i have a 220g tank at home waiting to be set up its drilled for a sump and i have a 40g sump for it i will be using a quietone 9000 pump, a 40watt aqua uv sterilizer before the pump is split back up to the tank. i will also have a fx5 filled with pond matrix for the bio load. I was wondering what ideas about this setup would be I was planning to get one silver aro (preffer a red aro, but no idea how to get one to my house). tankmates :tiger shovelnose or a true zerbra shovelnose maybe some green tiger barbs to cycle the tank..... thought about a gar but not sure....... any ideas?

Okay, no red aros, illegal. Heck allentown won't even let you have ferrets.
tiger shovelnose will outgrow that tank. If by zebra you mean tigrinus, that would be good if not a little more higher maintenance. A silver aro would be good for a long time but not forever if properly cared for. I don't anything about gar. There is a store in saylorsburg that regularly has silver aros. A place in quakertown that always has gars. Shark aquarium is a hour or so ride and has more than anyplace else you can drive to from atown. Good luck have fun.

i am actually outside allentown, i have dealers I have direct access to so getting things for the most part is just a email away, i thought red's were legal just couldnt get in the states for a price anyone is willing to pay? I also thought about bichers for tankmates. I have a electric cat at home that may end up in the 220g if i dont find a spot for another big tank when i get home.

So breaking the law is just an email away? Asian arowana are not legal for possession in the USA.

You tank size limits your choice is arowana. Silvers and Blacks get to big for a 220g, depending on tank's dimensions you could possibly get a jardini.

I can get anything thats legal, i thought saying for the most part people would relieze that i ment i can get anything that is "legal".

any more ideas?

You can keep a silver or a black aro in that tank for a long time. Posters on here have kept them in 180s, then had 3 or 4 in a 400 to 500, which actually equates to less tank space per fish than you're going to give!!
I'd stick with smaller tank mates though if i were you.
What's the foot print of the tank? 72inches by 30?

Yeah, you can get a red with the really high price!
the price of the fish + $150K fine + 5 years in federal prison, and then you can see your fish in public aquarium after out of jail!
as for your tank, you need at least 300 gallons with foot print of 8'x3'x20'' to house silver and black for life(bigger is better), if you give us its dimension, we can give you some better advice

72"x30"x24" i would love a silver or a black but if i gotta go something different i have no choice. there have been a few times i thought about going full community tank (rainbows, black neons, congos, clown loach, etc....) or doing a discus tank.. but those are passing thoughts and don't stick to long but i wont get home to set up my tank till december:cry: :irked: so i got awhile to plan
