Hello Everyone,

I'm new to MFK, but I recently acquired 2 tanks (220 and 150g) with 3 canister filters (eheim 2215, and 2 Fluval 304's), and a protein skimmer (couldn't determine the name). Got them all for $375, but they appear to have been sitting for about a year. I'm in the process of doing research to set up the 220g.

I originally wanted to go with a sump, but since I have the canisters, was wondering if I could get some advice. Do you think the 3 could handle the workload of the 220g? I think it totals about 660gph between all 3 canisters.

Currently I have a FOWLR in a 50 gallon stocked with 4 damsels, cleaner wrasse, dogfaced puffer, snowflake moray, and clown trigger. I'd like to eventually move them over to a nice big home, but need to research before really setting it up.

I like the idea of posting a thread for the setup. I have to build a stand, setup the tank and let it cycle. Then I'll work on moving the fish in. They are currently very small, but the eel is growing fast. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Tim-

Put all of the filters on there and then build a sump too!

Put all the canisters in the 150 and as for the 220 build a large sump (50-75Gal or so), just add a couple of powerheads for circulation. IMO.

Thanks for the replies. The problem is I don't think I can set both tanks up yet. I've never taken on anything of this size before. I'm going to start with one. Which of course has to be the bigger tank... lol. I'm planning to set up the other in the basement but not for a while (still have to convince the wife 2 tanks are better than one). She's ok with one for now, once that's up. I can work on her and try the other.

So to save money, I am going to set up the 220 with the 3 canisters and cycle it. I'll look into creating a sump at that time, as well as working on the wife... hehe.

Could these 3 canisters do the job, since I already have them? or would I need more filtration? If i was to stock it, It would probably get my 1.5" clown trigger, a 3" wrasse, a 3" dogface puffer, and a 9" snokflake eel. Also, I could just add the fish one or 2 at a time, I wouldn't have to put them all in at once. Thanks for the advice.

It should work. The Eheim is I think 90glns and the fluvals are about 70glns right??
I would do a sump. A quick $10 sump. Get a 50gl plastic container from Target/Wallmart and throw all your media in it. This way you are top notch with your filter system.
I have this currently on my 300gl, works like a charm:D

Yea that makes sense. I was curious because the canisters aren't rated for such large tanks and I wasn't sure If just putting more conisters would do it. I'll look to add a quick sump. I'll look around other posts for some pictures and ideas on how to set it up. Thanks.
