HEllo I'm going to be purchasing a 225g 6'x2'x2.5' soon and is going to house a large rhombeus. I plan to have 2 AC 110's, an XP 3, and a lrge powerhead to keep things moving. I'm also thinking about purchasing some hycainth because the tank is going to be right next to a window which gets a moderate to ample amount of sunlight. The tank will also have around 50 cardinals, neons, and other tetras maybe exodens. For plants I want Amazon swords and a few other related plants like anubias.

Is my set up ideal and if not what would make it so?

Thanks

it sounds ok, since all youll have is one large fish the bioload shouildnt be too high - i personally would go with a wet/dry filter (it works better plus you dont have to swap out media contantly) but i also love aquaclears they push a lot of water and have alot od media

the only prob might be with the ac 100s and the small tetras - if they are too small they might get sucked up the intake tube

sounds like a cool setup - a big rohm in a heavily planted tank looks really nice especiaclly in a tank that size - you should look for some really cool driftwood/logs and make it a amazon biotope

for the types of fish you listed, those filters should be no problem.

i would suggest a wet/dry since it seems like it is going to be a show tank so you can put all other stuff (heaters) in your sump so it doesnt clutter your tank...

dont forget to post pics once setup...

SUMP

I was thinking of getting a sump instead but the thing is that the tank is in my room and I already have a bunch of tanks and their is to much noise being produced. I know canisters are silent and if the water level is high enough I don't hear the waterfall effect of the AC's that much. Also imo wet drys always end up overflowing somehow and I have carpet flooring so I don't want to risk it. The tank is going to be positioned next to a window and so I can have a black background on the tank and place the AC's and heater on the back so they won't be noticed as much.

Btw is it worth getting dither fish to put with a big Rhom? I hear people saying that the Rhom dosen't bother them and some say that the Rhom will eventually eat or not tolerate them. I want to have a lot of shrub plants in the tank in order for them to hide but do you guys see it happening? Also who thinks exodons can make it in the tank? (like 10-15 of them)

Howdy,

I have the same size tank, running with nothing but an Eheim 2080

Currently, I have the output reduced to ca 1/3 of its capacity (it has a throttle) . Once the filter starts to clog up, I will be able to add more power. This Eheim is perfect. It has two intakes and the water is circulating nicely throughout the entire tank.

BTW: Look at the hyacinths roots before you get them. I got some, too, but then put them in my pond: The roots were too ugle to look at  . I got water lettuce instead.

Damn the tank has already been sold. I'm probably going to get a 200 or 120 instead now since it is the next best priced. :( It just goes to show that when you got a good deal you should jump on it. :(

I would go to http://www.glasscages.com and see what you can get for the money you were gonna spend on the 225, you should be able to get something bigger than a 120 or maybe even the 200. But then again I dont know what you had for a budget. Just an idea

I was going to buy the tank for $175 with the stand included. Omg I'm kicking myself for not jumping on that :( Oh well their will always be another deal. I might get a 4x2x2 or maybe a 6x2x2 I just need the people to respond to my emails. :D I'm also going to check my lfs that I got a 240g with stand and filtration for $500. I just need something that is at least 3' long and 2' wide for now. As soon as I find another great deal online for a 180g+ I'm all over it. ;)
