This isnt a what filter is better thread. I love the 2262

Im just trying to cut electrical costs for the next few months and need to do my part.
I have two ac110s and a large sponge laying around.

I know the 2262 would be better overall but can i get sufficient filtration if i swapped it out with the ac's and sponge ?

Ive always crammed allot of bio in the ac's the stock is 1 pearsei, 1 l200, 3 polypterus in a 150 gal

I really don't think you will be saving much of anything once you factor in the cost of the 2 AC's and a sponge filter.

2 acs 28 watts
1 2262 80 watts

Been on the wife and kids so i gotta do my part. Little here little there adds up.

Main question will the filtration be sufficient

I'm confident it should be adequate. To err on the side of caution, just keep monitoring water parameters daily for a couple of weeks after you pulled the 2262.

Since its temporary, this may also help:
drop the water temp a few degrees; basically simulating a cold season
keep the tank light off more often
reduce feeding a bit to help reduce parameter issue

Have you calculated the monetary savings? You will use 52 less watts by switching filters. Let's say you pay 25 cents per kilowatt hour. Monthly savings $9.36 or 31 cents per day. (52 X 24 x30) /1,000 X .25 = 9.36

Thx X was thinking i would be ok. Ac's do hold a deceptive amount of bio.

Good point with the heater. I try and keep all the tanks at 78ish this one is closer to 80 could drop it a bit

I know it wouldnt be a huge savings but 10 bucks here 10 bucks there adds up. Not trying to be rude i do appreciate you taking the time to comment but this was more of a "will this work" vs how much im saving.

I was thinking along the line of like 74.....this is short term so they'll be just fine.

Heating is mainly where you're energy is going towards
