Okay so I know it is not a great idea to sand acrylic but for me to be happy since I paid so much for this tank I am going to have to sand a little bit. I have sanding compound that is 30,000 or a 15,000 grain I believe and is safe on clearcoat finishes on a car. Should I go with that or do the 7,500 grain that the acrylic dealer told me he has tried before. I rather take longer doing one job and get it right rather than really messing it up and having to buff for hours on end.

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas to all.

I believe you'll get a nice smooth buff with a lot coarser grit than that, so the only negative thing I would think to come of it would be the length of time to finish. That would be more than ok.

What would be a safe grain? My brother tried a 400 grain and buffed it with a 15,000 grain polish without asking me on the top in like a dime size area and it was too much. It made seem like it was a little cloudy. To be honest I was a little upset but hes only trying to help so I didnt get mad at him.
