Ive only posted on here once before, but I just wanted to post my tank up here and ask for some advice. I posted up a couple weeks ago inquiring about how to drill the acrylic. Got some great advice so thats a lot!
For years Ive wanted a big tank but military life has always prohibited me from starting anything to large to ask my father to take care of for a year or more. Well I got a year left in and I figure its time to get what I want. Found a great 240 gallon Tenecor acrylic tank on craigslist and jumped at the opportunity. It was in pretty good shape but I needed to buff it for about 5 hours. Turned out fantastic and im very happy with Novus.
I originally had it hooked up to a 55gal sump and a fx5. I bought a Mag drive 18 and did all the siliconing relatively quickly. I have a little experience with sumps but I couldnt seem to dial this one in, so I took it off and added another fx5. My bioload is extremely small right now so im not concerned with under filtration.
I also started the tank with large rocks. Biggest mistake ever. I spent like $150 on these amazing polished river rocks. Turned out to be a nightmare with waste and food settling in between the rocks. Amateur mistake I guess. So I decided to go with PFS, I knew I would be happy with it. I have had it in the past and its always been my go to substrate.
I have the tank stocked with all kinds of stuff that shouldnt be together inc 2xdiscus, 2xfrontosa, 2xloaches, and 1 arowana..I know its bad but they are all getting along just fine so I didnt feel the need to start up another smaller tank just yet. The arowana is a nut job though and likes to attack everything near the top of the tank. Bites fingers, thermometers, water test strips. I feed him 3x a day but hes never full.
Here are some pictures. Please let me know what else I can add that might go along with these fish. I was thinking a larger catfish or even a Clown knife.
Also am I going to need more filtration when my fish get bigger? any feedback is greatly appreciated. Sorry for the picture quality!
