I am in the process of setting up my 240g and was wondering about possible stocklists. I am currently designing and accumulating materials for stand.

Related info -
Tank: 8x2x2 acrylic, black background
55 gal sump: Possibly able to slide forward if I can work out a few details
Rest of filtration still sketchy
Stand: Powder coated 11 gauge, 1 1/2" sq. tube steel (easy for me to make)
Other details planned: Sand substrate, 2 pieces driftwood + maybe rock formation (sight breaks), a few pots for homes, anubias/java fern (for color).
Iffy stuff: I really want to do a floating plant of some sort for subdued natural lighting but worried about intake. Maybe a silk plant of some type held in place so it doesn't drift?

Anyways on to stocklist I am thinking on.
1 pair RTM
1 pair Jag
1 sal or possibly pair
These are the fish I really want to keep long term, but have been told that beefing up stock to around 8-10 fish might be better overall. So maybe....
1 Oscar? I have been down this road before and not sure I want oscars again.
1 GT? I am not sure a GT could compete enough for food or space and might spend time cowering.
I have read that any Amphilophus with Parachromis is a ticking time bomb so they are out.
What are some solid candidates that will work in the long term?

some bichir. I've got some that would love it there ;)

Don't forget the Vieja genus ... should be able to handle the mota's and jags.

Don't they get monstrously huge? Not just length but thick and bulky bodies? Was thinking maybe that is a bit too much but could that work long term?

I am not sure I want another lunker with the possible size of male jag and mota. While I am thinking more fish, I don't want a cluttered or full look. I was thinking more along smaller additions, 8-10".

*Edit - I have no real experience with large CA/SA cichlids other then oscars, my experience is with dwarves, so this is new to me*

Just hope the Jags don't want to be the only things in the tank :P

Especially angry little devils are they not?
