Right now I am running 2 110 Marineland bio wheel filters. I don't have plumbing setup for a sump. Right now my fish consists of 2 tiger Oscars, 6 tinfoil barbs and 2 geos. All of them are 3-5 inches in length. I have thought about running a sump. I know I should but I've already spent a lot of money on this tank as it is.

So I was reading on here. Would a fx5 and a aqua clear 110 be enough filtration for the fish that I have? I do plan on adding 1 more geo and a arawona. Would like to hear some inputs on that setup. Or should I put the money into setting up a sump but I would need to drill holes in the tank to run the plumbing right? My acrylic tank doesn't have holes drilled for it. Thanks.

Well, on my 180g I run 2 AC110s, an FX5, a sponge filter, and plants. I'd go for a sump personally... but if you go the filter route I'd probably opt for at least one more AC110, or another large cannister. That's just my opinion though.

Those fish you have are hardy and as long as you do weekly water changes, you will be fine. If you add fish like charchins, rays or any other more delicate fish that need more filtration and better water quality then I would look at adding another filter. If you are still worried about it, try adding a sponge filter with a 100g airpump. That alown will make a difference.

I would actually recommend running an fx5 and eheim 2262 if you can. The fx5 is good for mechanical but a 2262 has more room for bio. They're both rated at 900gph but closer to 600 with media so that will still only put you at 5x turnover. An ac110 will bring u closer to 1700 and you can throw in a sponge filter to add a little extra, but when you consider the cost of the canisters and wattage of all those pumps, a sump is really a better option for a tank this size. I'm going thru the same exact debate on my 240 right now and the only reason I'm second guessing a sump is because my stand is divided and I live in an apartment. But if you really don't want to drill your tank or make a PVC overflow, an fx5 and 2262 is the best combination IMO. Here's a good tutorial on DIY pvc overflows if you want to check out an alternative to drilling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DFk4bnIxEg&feature=youtube_gdata_player
