i want to build in a wall tank for our living room. The size is 8 wide 4 tall and just 1foot deep. Its around 220-230 gallons. Wont be filled to top. Have 3to 4 inch sand floor. Water weight around 1800 and sand is 50 or so. Plants/decorations have no weight total yet. But to be safe im guessing 150-200. First step is weight support for tank. But i have that figured. 2nd step i need help with.... Deciding on glass or plexi. Plexi scratches i know, but would be lighter. i would have to get it shipped so plexi is probly best in end. But want to get input since better to pay once and tank not fail. Then get and have to replace. But running on small budget. "tank be up for while before any thing in it". i will have 2 clear sides. Other two in wall so doesnt matter. And want to se threw tank into other room some what. Also will be fresh water tank. Water weight probly drop big time as im thinking about a terra/aqua set up. But dry land be floating instead of solid mass. im trying to do a slide cut of enviroment system. Not sure how to explain, but i want to set up tank so show diferent enviroments. Left to right... Desert, forest, lake, beach. Would like to do fresh to salt. But afraid even with full plexi dividers salt still bleed into rest. This is a science project "no not a one shot trow away. Its to help teach my kids about ecco systems and animal/plant life. So doing this right not half butted. other site when i said science project went ballistic thinking this was just a quick game or such. Yes its projectbut one that we will do life long not weekend then "turn off and ignore". so any ideas how to do this be helpfull. Yes 8 bit small. But atm wife not allowing a 16 footer..... Yet lol.
So to list what i need helpwith is
1, glass or plexi
2, thickness of panels
3. Cross beams required for top
4, inexspensive but good filter set up
5, i want a full ecco setup. So compatible fish/amps/newts.
6. I know this fish group. But im sure many here do more then fish. If i can upload a drawing to this post. Ill post general layout i would like.
I will later need assistance with temp per section monitoring. As desert animals need different temp then rain forest and humidity. I know to keep like temp animals together and not mix. But need to decide on animals so can find temp. I have researched this idea. But hopeing to find some one who has experience with this set up to help mentor project. If cant be done right ild rather not even try.
Most of what i seen here are large fish tanks. But since some way off "norm" hopeing this right group to ask. I know alot of difficulties associated with this endever. So dont need to be told will be hard to do. Need help to get past that to how it can be done. Each section will be seperated from next. By side and top. With 3-4 inch barriers between lid tops. Some side walls will have to be double insulated to keep the different temps.
Ive tried asking before in other groups about this project. And since i havent done this for years been basicaly down spoken to and told im not allowed since im not expert. Which is why i ask experts for help lol. I know this can be done just takes care and preperation and monitoring correctly to keep it stable and healthy. Hope to hear good this ideas/thoughts to help further this for my kids. Weight and water depth and decoractions. I posted are for full single section tank. Reason was thats a start point. I want 4 section tank. But need to get base tank set up before can fine tune sections for the different eccos. Might end up 3sections so thats why fist size listed if for single. I figure if can get outer walls and base done. Inner sections be easier then. I have lot more thought and work done into this just hard to express it by written text.
