So, any suggestions on fish/setup choice? I am really undecided about what theme to give my 240 gallon. 8' x 2' x 2' with a 40 gallon wet/dry filter.

I want something different. The fish in my sig. are in my 220 show, so got them already. What would be a good monster to put in there? Currently there is no substrate or decor of any kind. Just full of feeders and some other lil fish for cycling purposes. I am thinking Pbass or gar? Help me out please!!!

Hmm how about a SE Asia theme? One very expensive Asian arowana as centre piece, tinfoil barbs, clown loaches. Heck there’s so much to do with a 240! Personally, I would:

Use black sand for substrate.
Have a black background.
Get a skull and rib cage (maybe some other odd related bones) and have them sealed for a centre piece.
And pop 12 red belly or caribe piranhas in there.

If he does not get caught there is not a problem? Of course it is his call, but having a fish is hardly a major crime for a sensible hobbyist, and no one needs know if he does not advertise it to the locals.

Rather cheeky, I know.

You're right but availibility in the states is virtually zero, except for a select few that might have one. Sorta like finding a snakehead in the states. Anyone who has one isn't telling and isn't selling.

Fahaka or MBU puffer :headbang2 :headbang2

a fahaka would be cool, but a mbu gets too big. how about a dovii?

That's a damn shame :(

I was going to ask why importers don’t exploit the demand and lack of supply. But i guess the consequences for them importing lots would be much more dire compared to a hobbyist just having a few. Shame.

Hey everyone,

I appreciate everyones info so far, but I already have a setup with arowana in it, so I am not really planning on getting arowana for this 240. I guess I could head that way, but something different would be cool. Hmmmm. Fahaka puffer huh? I was kind of thinking of a huge cichlid community...maybe.

I love the black sand and background idea, and would kill for some piranha. But they are illegal so not sure if I want to sway that way. Besides once it was set up how could I share my set up with everyone with pics? TPW would be knocking...no busting...down my door :grinno: .

Thanks and keep the ideas rolling...
