moved to the valley area and i brought up my 240 gal. i need stocking questions seems like my big fish died, so now with the pet stores around here i am stuck with buying little fish and watching them grow, which is what's in my 135 gal now. i got a school of balas, some firemouths, some dempseys, a glasshead humpfish, and some indo dats. i need infos or suggestions on what to put with my 240 tank. thinking to grow out some albino oscars too, and maybe get lucky and find a small jardini. i don't know of too many stores around here yet the ones i been too besides petsmart and petco have been cool tho..

I think buying small fish and watching them grow is better, but thats just me. I would definitely get a couple peacock bass in a 240.

i know a lot of ppl here like pcock bass but i never really got into them yet. i know there are different ones like piranhas but i need more infos on those, like how big can they get, will the tank handle them for life, and will they get along with like dats, aros, chichlids, oscars.

Piranha shouldn't live in a 240 or with tank mates. Plus they are ugly IMO. P-bass have gorgeous colors and body shapes. I'd get an oscar. That tank would be awesome for one and I think they are awesome fish.

Don't get oscars unless you can house 6 of them for their whole lives. 240 won't be big enough for that. You can get one oscar and other fish to go with it, but if you want more than one, the minimum number is 6, to spread out the aggression/bullying.

Oscars can live in pairs and trio's no problem. My two have a huge size difference and no aggression. If they grow up together or if you use a divider to get them used to each other they will be fine.

nver heard of the 6 oscar rule but i have had pairs of oscars that worked out ok. one time tho a trio didn't work so good and one almost died that i had to get rid of it.

A location might help with LFS suggestions :)

well RedDwarf i guess the closest city would be Fresno.

If you want to get small to medium fish with quick growing rates i'd go arowana and peacock bass. This site has everything you need if you are willing to pay shipping. Totally worth it because of the quality of fish most vendors carry. GL and post pics :)

Just stock it full of cichlids!!!!! That what I did with my 240. But its no where near all the way stocked yet.

And that oscar rule is not true at all. Pairs work out really good and you could prob get 4 in there with enough filtration and be fine.
