Hello MFK,

So I want to get a 240g 8x2x2 with 2 fx6's that will be a Sa/Ca cichlid tank. When starting off, do I buy the cichlids when they are juveniles or adults? This will be my first time going into cichlids so I appreciate as much details and info as possible. Here are some of the fish im interested in *not all in the same tank obviously*

Pearsei
Gt
Midas
Firemouth
Jd
Geophagus
Salvini
Jaguar
Cichlosoma
Convict
Redhead cichlid
Rainbow cichlid
Severums
Chocolate cichlid

I would definitely buy small and raise them together.
So on to your list.
It really is going to be a matter of opinion and your own personal preference.
I like the less aggressive community idea so I would pick the chocolate
And sevrum with some geos or even firemouth group would be nice.
cichlasoma Is a genus btw not an actual species
I'm not sure if I know what you mean by that listing?

Nice size tank, I agree it's personal preference, out of the list you have I would try one vieja melanura (redhead cichlid) and a group of about 8 Thorichthys meeki (Firemouths) two males six females maybe with some swordtails.

I really don't know the names of the cichlids as I have a lot to research. Sorry if I confused you a bit. I want a tank with a lot of color and different species of fish in it. Probably a peaceful tank would be the best and easiest to maintain for a beginner into cichlids. I really want a JD in the tank though if possible
