Assume you had a cycled, empty (no fish) 240 gallon tank, how would you stock it with central american cichlids. Exclude the Petsmart stuff, no cons, JD's, etc I want something you don't see everyday in the chain stores. What I would like to know is what mixes of fish have you had success with. Pics would be awsome as well.

Thanks

black nasty was the first thing that came to mind :D id also do a RTM, argentea, a large pike, and a few other larger sa/ca

add some vieja and amph. species.
maybe 1 or 2 cool plec's with some dollars.
vieja's being

regani
argentea
sysnpilum
black belt
zonatum
hartwegi

amph. species being

lyonsi
citrinellus BARRED or else chancho or even red isletas
festae
robertsoni

Don't forget about pike cichlids, some of the tapajos sp. are very nice - being predatory fish that get huge they're incredibly fun to watch during feeding time.

For me I would just put my 10" Istlanum male, my 5" Beani Male and an Ornatum if I can ever get my hands on one.

Right now I am $500 into my trio on the cichlids. I want I already have my Istlanum and my Beani's and all I need is the Ornatum.

+1 If you want some color and something a little different Vieja sp. are great

Jags, Dovii, Cubans etc. when mature can take over a take that size single handed and may not tolerate other fish.

I also think that vieja species would be a great stock. There's alot of nice variation within the genus.
