so would 20 Mill. pond liner work for my plywood build?

yes! i just used some pond liner, the plastic woven kind not the rubber stuff, to a seal a sump and it worked really well and was easy to work with. just make sure to get an adhesive that sticks to both the wood and pond liner very well. i used a spray adhesive. i hate the idea of "seeing" the liner in the tank so i cut a piece for each wall, adhered it and let it sit face down on my garage floor with alot of weight to asure a smooth finish. then screwed the walls together and gooped the seams, silicon wouldn't stick to the stuff i used. i'm sure 20 mil liner will work just as good if not better.

I would use thicker unless you plan on replacing it every 5 years or so. 45 mil?

I would go with thicker liner as well.
