I have had this tank for numerous years. While doing some alterations to the fish room, I emptied her and placed her on 1.5" insulation for 6 months.

I have now built her a new stand, and filled it up, and have noticed that the bottom of the tank does not lie flat on The 1" insulation. At the middle, where the front and back panes bow out, it is also raised.

Never noticed that about tank which I have had for about 7 years.

So - should I not care, or should I be placing wedges to support where it is raised?

Thoughts?

pics?

I take it this is an acrylic tank?

placing wedges is going to make things worse by creating pressure points which will likely do more harm than good.

was the stand you used to have an open top design? from what I understand acrylic tanks can't have this kind of stand because it allows for bowing.

if the tank is glass, it has probably been that way all along. the bottom of glass tanks do not generally bow. I guess this is because the downward pressure from the weight of the water is relatively uniform across the entire surface area.

pics would definitely help.

Yes, acrylic.

I supported with 2x across - though will make sure this 2x accross is not bowing.

Will take pics.

Thanks guys

This is my understanding also. I have always been under the impression that acyrlic tanks need a contiguous solid surface to sit on. They should only have about 1/4" of foam between the stand and tank to level out the minor inconsistencies in the stand.
