Ok so I have build two stands for aquariums (75gal and 180gal), and looking to build a 8x2 stand for a used 240gal glass tank I bought. Both stands are still standing and the last one I built, 180gal seemed to weight almost as much as the empty glass tank I had built it for.
I'm looking to modify the 180gal stand plans I made for the 240gal, just to be clear I am using the same plan not the same stand. What I was thinking of doing is adding a second set of supports in the front and back to help with the increase weight and length of the 240. I marked the attached pic in RED to show what I was planning on doing. The supports will be 25 inches from the edge of the tank and distance between the the two middle supports will be about 30 inches. The additional supports will be exactly the same as the supports the read lines are next too. This will be the only structural modification I will make to the stand, I will have 3/4 or 1 inch ply wood on the thop and thin 1/4 walls.
So my question/concern is will the additional supports next to the existing supports (in the plans/pics) be sufficient for the added length and weight of the 240gal tank?
