Well I have decided to go ahead with the 240gl. Here is a list of fish it will home:

1 Silver Aro (now 6-7")
1 BLack Arow (will have to purchase)
2 Tiger Oscars (now 4-5")
2 Red Belly Pacu (same as oscars)
1 Red Tail Cat (will have to purchase)

Thinking of putting sand bottom with no live plants. Stone for decor and no drift wood. I will have a oak cab. base with a matching canopy to hold my lighting.

I have been in the Hobby for a few years but have never kept a tank of this size. I was able to keep a show quality 75gl reef, which I sold to a local independent fish store. Wow, Lost my butt on that one.....lol

For those who have had a tank of this size or larger what is the best filtration?

Any other suggestions or comments are welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that will be too small for life.

i think most people underestimate the FX5.

my 250g is filtered by one fx5 loaded with bio-media. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrate, and between 40-80 nitrite with one 40% or so WC each week. my largest pacu is 17 or so" and the other pacu's, RD and oscar are between 6 and 11".

not a light bio-load by any means. and surely not saying only 1 filter is a good idea, god forbid it dies for any reason. but its keeping my tank well.

Yea but he said 2 oscars possibly in that tank, a rtc, a silver aro, a black aro, 2 pacu, now thats a BIO LOAD. Possibly 4 times the bio-load that you create in a week, that one day his fish will be producing. Thus the need for that much filtration.

Edit: I see in your profile that you have 5 JD's and more fish in that tank with one fx5!?!?!?! dude, you gotta be changing water almost everyday...

I guess I will start with 2 FX5s. All the fish will be small at first. Eventually I will have to move some to another tank. Thanks again for the comments.

2 Fx5's should do the trick until they get full grown...I have a 405 in my sites soon once mine get bigger.

Way to many fish let alone compatibility issues ,two aros, red tail cat, do what you want but that just wont work for long .You should look up the size of the fish you plan to get it may sound OK wen yore fish are 4''or5''.I have a 240g look at my stock list i have two fx5 and a pro3 40% water change weekly .Maybe leave out the aro and the cat that may work.

a wet/dry filter will probably be able to take on that bio load if it was me i would get a wet/dry and a one FX5 that is if you have already got the tank i don't like the hang on overflows
