picked this tank up today with ocean clear filters and little giant pumps found date of 11/95, seller bought used 5 years ago never set up? got it for 550.00, theres ahood as well. my question, no my thought is im going to eliminate the ocean clear system, including all the drain and return nipples in the back of the tank around 9 total, with 1/4" black plastic disks maybe 3"round, and then put what i use on my 125 a 300 gl wet dry dual overflow, with a big return pump, and a couple of powerheads with prefilters, the seller did say it housed a 15k dollar "red dragon" fish imported from thailand, etc, etc. the system seems too big and old for south american cichlids, any input would be appreciated.....

no info on hook up, i tried to piece it together, but im not familiar with the design, i think it had a reef or something in it, again history is sketchy at best on this tank, it didnt need to be up and running for 550.

thanks v im sure the potential is there, just need someone who has a similar system up and running, its tough when you buy something this size with nothing not even a picture of "back in the day" but as i stated before for 550 ill just load it in the truck figure it out, one way or the other.... MONSTER STYLE.....someone with similar system help a fellow monster out!!

well doing this from my phone sucks I downloaded some pics and that looks like it was drilled for reef... can't see somebody doing that for freshwater.... I would keep all of the top holes or keep all of them for returns...now after my wetdry I put my oceanclear to keep my tank extra clean... but I also had a high pressure pump so needed too add to the head height I would keep them after your sump can't hurt do one mechanical and one bio never hurts to have extra filtration..... hope this helps....

first off, it would have been alot easier to tote that big tank around if it was in the back of a chevy!

i believe if you run it like a sump and just add the two micron filters between the pump and the return you'll be alright. best i can figure. i've never had anything like that but its similar to how the mega filters work and my job

its a done deal, utilized existing plumbing and pumps for 2 closed loop circulation systems, that will assist dual hob's that will drain to appropiate wet/dry sump, and then returned with 800 gph pump to 2 bulk heads, ill add 2 880 power heads with prefilters, and post pics soon, thanks for the help all, i was overwhelmed at first but its working out!.....
